Datz Brunch

Saturday, September 05, 2015

If I have to have one regret in life it's that I didn't brunch enough in my early 20s. Seriously, how did I go every Sunday not sipping on bloodies or munching on pancakes and eggs benny? Thankfully, I smartened up before hitting 30. And that includes brunching on a weekday. The best part? No wait.

We've brunched at some great places in Tampa - Oxford Exchange (our favorite), Pinky's, and Daily Eats to name a few. We've been eyeing Datz for awhile so when Matt suggested brunch on his day off, we were ready. Unfortunately, it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be.

Of course cocktails were in order. I'm a huge fan of lychee cocktails so their Sparkling Soju caught my attention, while Matt decided to go with their Smoked Bacon Bloody Mary.

And as for our meals, I went with the Chicken and Waffles Benedict and Matt got the Corned Beef Hash - both with cheesy grits on the side. While the service was great and everything looked absolutely delicious, my dish ended up being a bit disappointing. The flavor was tasty, but here's my thing - when I order poached eggs, I expect some runny yolks. I mean, isn't that the whole point of eggs benedict? Sadly, I didn't get the photo op I was hoping for.

Overall, Datz was simply....okay. I'm glad we were able to cross it off our list, but it didn't leave me wanting more. Maybe it would have been different if I had ordered something else, but to me first impressions are everything. Who knows, if we ever find ourselves there again, serve me a runny egg and I could change my mind :)
