Weekend Recap: It's Finally Fall

Tuesday, November 04, 2014

It finally felt like Fall this past weekend! We woke up Saturday to a chilly 55 degrees and it was glorious - and the perfect reason to bust out our throw blanket from Pottery Barn :)

And I know, Florida's "breezy" morning is nothing compared to New England's first snowfall of the season, but hey I'll take what I can get!

So I love all nut butters and I'm officially OBSESSED with this new brand I discovered from Instagram - You Fresh Naturals from Plantation, FL. They do a mixture of coconut butter and nut butter (almond, cashew, macadamia etc.) to form flavors like Almond Maple Vanilla and their seasonal Cashew Caramel Pumpkin Spice. I'm going through both of these jars right now and seriously guys, they are AMAZING. They also use ingredients like dates and maple syrup to sweeten them up...I mean, you can't beat all natural!  Follow their Instagram and I guarantee you'll want every single flavor.  YUM YUM YUM.

The weekend was pretty relaxed, yet productive. We took a leisurely drive around Tampa with Madison and ended up at a park near the new house.  Madison still gets a little nervous in the Jeep, but she's such a trooper. The one thing we're really trying to work on is to get her to jump out of the car. Any tips from you guys would be helpful because let me tell you, when Matthew is gone, she is HEAVY!

If I had to guess, Madison's favorite is definitely playing frisbee!

On Sunday we stopped by Joe and Son's Olive Oils on Bay To Bay Blvd. They specialize in olive oils of course, as well as balsamic vinegars. We just love shops like these and had been looking for quality olive oil since we moved down here so this was a perfect find. Everyone here is so friendly and knowledgeable - the best part is you get to taste EVERYTHING. The staff even mixes vinegar and oil concoctions you would never expect to pair well together so it's just a lovely experience every time you stop in.

We left with their traditional 18-year balsamic, hojiblanca olive oil, chipotle infused olive oil and dark chocolate balsamic. Our collection is quickly growing to say the least. Can't wait to try these out and share with you guys the recipes!

I'm trying to get back into a healthy routine so exercise and eating healthy are my goals this week. I have been attempting a more plant-based diet so I'll keep you guys posted on how that goes. Oh and I realized I have a few healthy recipes I forgot to share with you guys awhile back so be on the lookout for those coming up! Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their week!

  2. I'm SO glad it is finally feeling like fall here in Florida. Moving here in the summer kind of gave us a bad impression of Florida. That humidity, wow. So not what we were used to in California! But Florida is feeling much nicer with a cool breeze :)

Those nut butters and olive oils sound amazing! I recently started eating almond butter and I love it. I have never been a big fan of peanut butter but other nuts I love (especially hazelnut!). My husband and I recently tried some locally made olive oil and balsamic vinegars by Kalamazoo here in St. Pete. They were delicious! I love those kinds of shops too, where you can just go in and taste everything.

Fortunately our big dog, Cali, jumps in and out of the car easily but I'm working on getting our little pup Jasper to jump in and out. He's so small though, so I don't force the issue. Have you tried using a toy or a treat to entice Madison?

  3. First off, Cali and Jasper are the best puppy names ever! :) And I'll have to try a toy...she loves the squeaky ones, thanks Carissa! And yes, the hubby and I caught a glimpse of what the summer's like here and not going to lie, I'm nervous lol

If you don't mind me asking, what is the name of the olive oil place in St. Pete?! Matt's from the Midwest and would be excited to hear about it :)
