First Weekend at Home!

Tuesday, December 02, 2014

I woke up this morning with full intention of not blogging, but after 30 minutes of sitting in silence with coffee in hand, I realized there was no chance. When there's a Starbucks, there's a way and I wanted to share with you guys our first weekend while it was still fresh on my mind :)

Matthew's parents arrived late Thursday night and while every visit with them is always wonderful, this visit was just beyond. I'm not going to lie, mentally we were so unprepared for visitors...we were exhausted, our house was a mess, boxes were everywhere, suitcases, clothes, SHOES...all over the place. I knew the apartment had to be cleaned and I kept thinking HOW were we going to do this? The answer was easy - because our family loves us! Matthew and I came home on Friday to every box in the living room unpacked and stored away, an organized and functioning kitchen, and DINNER. I mean, WHAT? We are so very blessed to have such a loving family!

After spending the rest of the weekend organizing and cleaning up, Matthew and I wanted to take Keith and Chris to at least one nicer place to have brunch and thank them for helping us out this weekend. I took the recommendation from fellow blogger friend/military wife, Carissa of Wisp and Whim, and made reservations at the Oxford Exchange

Um, this place was AMAZING. If you're into brunch and ever make it to Tampa you need to check this place out!

I was the obnoxious one taking all the pictures...Chris and Keith were gracious enough to put up with me :)

We started off with their Fried Brussel Sprouts and even though I had my eye on the Pumpkin Pancakes since reading Carissa's post, I had to try their Smoked Salmon! But no worries, this just means I'll have to get their pancakes next time :)

The Oxford Exchange is part bookstore, part restaurant, and part shop of vintage knick knacks. Everything about this place is beautiful.

I loved my brunch outfit! It was a nice change from all the t-shirts and sweatpants I was wearing from moving.

Needless to say, our first weekend home was a huge success thanks to Keith and Chris! Everything is slowly, but surely coming together and we're really excited for all the memories to come. Now all we have to do is wait for closing day and then we can finally celebrate! I mean, we might as well use our champs glasses since they're already unpacked ;) Two more days!

  1. Ooh, you are very blessed! My sister is the primo organizer and "get at it" kinda girl. She and Keith both are worker bees. I'm so glad you're having a good time, what a pleasure to have your stress lightened. Much love to everyone. xoxo Aunt Kim

  2. Firstly, how amazing are your in-laws?! Wow. I'm jealous, lol. Seriously though, that was so sweet of them. I bet you are feeling a huge load off your shoulders with the boxes unpacked and things put away.

Second, I'm so glad you enjoyed OE! and took your in-laws! That's a great place to take visitors, so much to explore before/after a meal. Oh, and I'm always the annoying one taking photos, too :)

P.S. Those Brussels sprouts look delish! I have had dinner and breakfast at OE, so I need to go back and have lunch!

  3. Thanks Aunt Kim, we had a great time!! Hope you and the fam had a wonderful thanksgiving!!! Miss you guys! Sorry for the delayed response...we are still living without internet!

  4. lol they ARE amazing! I get so worried about being the hostess with the mostest that I didn't stop to think, "Maybe they just want to spend time with us and help?" I'm trying to work on it, but I always had the mindset of doing everything myself. The person who doesn't ask for help, yeah, that's me ::pointing at myself:: But I'm so thankful for my in-laws - loving and selfless!

YES, the OE was AMAZING and we will be back (hopefully for those pancakes!). Maybe we can do a blogger meet up before you leave for Jersey sometime! :)

And so sorry for the delayed response...the hubs and I are still without internet! Currently at starbucks to catch up :)

  5. Well, my relationship with my in-laws in strained at best so I was just a bit envious :) But yes, I know the feeling of wanting to do everything myself in certain situations. Usually it's a symptom of my perfectionist tendencies!

As for the OE, I gladly accept any reason to visit so if you're ever planning a trip I'd love to meet for coffee!

  6. Aww! Trust me, my in-laws love new people! I'd be willing to share ;) And YES, let's plan this meet-up. I'm finding you on Facebook! :)
